The Concept
Dogs and photography have always gone together for me.
Ever since I got my first camera at the age of thirteen I have wanted to take pictures that do justice to the character of dogs and capture their essential dogginess rather than conventional set piece pictures of dogs on velvet cushions fading into mottled backgrounds or posed and immaculately groomed in front of white backcloths.
It soon became clear to me this was far from easy and used to be very expensive - it took loads of film. My subject for many years was our Jack Russell, Jill - probably the best dog that ever lived, but an unstoppable ball of energy and very hard to capture in action. No studio shot could have captured her nature.
The digital photography revolution
As a professional photographer I've been asked to photograph dogs for friends on location over the years, but until now not offered it as part of my professional service. The advent of truly high quality digital photography has made it possible to take the numbers of pictures required without an enormous bill - and enable owners to see the pictures without having everything printed. I like to hand over all the usable images on a disc together with a handful of high quality professional prints chosen by the owner.
This still leaves travel to and from a location and I'm happy to travel to your home if you wish, though as I live near West Wittering and Bosham, both wonderful backdrops, you're welcome to travel to me if you prefer. I want you to have a selection of wonderful pictures of your dog to keep for all time. I still wish I had taken more of Jill while she was with us.
